The Formation of the Halcrow Pensioners Association
After the failure of efforts to use some of the proceeds of the sale of Halcrow to reduce the deficit in the Halcrow Pension Scheme, some of the Halcrow Pensioners, in response to legal advice, have taken steps to form an association in order to have a pressure group better able to secure the future of the Halcrow Pension Scheme. An interim committee has been appointed, a bank account opened and a website has been established. The committee now wants to build up the membership numbers.
As individuals we have limited voice, but collectively we stand a better chance of being heard and influencing future changes. In addition to forming a platform for talking to past colleagues, HPA provides, for the first time, a credible and collective body to represent member's interests to the trustees. We need members, both to be able to demonstrate the numbers of people concerned about the welfare of the Halcrow Pension Scheme and also to raise a fund to meet legal or other costs. So please join. We also have a forum where HPS members can discuss common issues.
The Halcrow Trust Distribution
The trustees of the Halcrow Trust are currently distributing the monies received from CH2M Hill for the purchase of the shares held by the Trust. It appears that the trustees have made a strict interpretation of the definition of beneficiaries as set out in the Trust Deed.
The Association has been in contact with the HPS trustees regarding the scheme valuation and recovery plan.
Two meetings of groups of Halcrow pensioners are planned during the next few months.
Please Spread the Word
Finally, please spread the word by forwarding this email to anyone else whom you think may be a member (pensioner, deferred or contributing) of the Halcrow Pension Scheme. It is better that they receive multiple copies of this email than remain unaware of this initiative.
Thank you from the interim committee.
